From Vision to Reality: Breaking Barriers and Making Prom Possible
Our Journey of Inclusion and Impact
Making Prom Happen is a charitable initiative dedicated to removing financial barriers for students in Peel Region by providing free prom and graduation attire. Our mission is simple: to foster confidence, inclusion, and celebration during one of life’s most memorable milestones.
It all started in March 2023, when a small group of passionate volunteers came together with one big idea—no student should miss out on prom because of financial hardship. In just six weeks, we collected over 300 dresses, along with shoes, bags, and accessories, and hosted our first free promwear event. That day, we supported 70 families, and the smiles and gratitude we witnessed inspired us to keep going.
Since then, Making Prom Happen has grown into an annual event that serves hundreds of students across Peel Region. With the help of dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and community partners, we’ve created an amazing shopping experience where students can browse, try on, and choose the perfect outfit—without spending a dime.
“A funny thing happened in January 2023. I was cleaning out my closet and I came across three beautiful dresses that unfortunately no longer fit! I tried to find a prom wear “library” where they make prom affordable for students by providing free dresses and suits. I couldn’t find any in my area!”
