Donate with Dignity for us means that we are requesting all donations be stain free, clean and in good repair. We want the best experience for all our guests. Thank you in advance for your support and consideration.

Where Can I Drop Off Donations
Thank you so much to everyone who donated for our April 10, 2025 event. We are so grateful for your support. Today was our donation deadline. The link to our donation drop off locations has been removed now until next year.
If you have donations, we would love it if you could keep them for next year’s event, but we understand if that is not possible.

Wondering if your donation is right?
All clothing must be clean, defect free, and from a non-smoking home.
Ask yourself…
- Would a teenager would be excited to wear this for prom?
- Would they be able to wear it straight off the hanger?
Dresses and Suits
Specifically…
- Dresses – We always need curvy/plus sizes. Last year we had piles of dresses sizes 0 to 10, but not a lot of sizes 12 and up.
- Ladies Tuxes – Ladies tuxes. All sizes.
- Boys/Men’s Suits – Boy’s suits sizes medium to large are really hard to find, but are in high demand. We also need men’s suits.
What we don’t need:
Old dresses, summer dresses, or business style dresses.
Business suits, wool blazers, tweed jackets and suits that are dirty, need mending, or were worn in the 70s.
We don’t need grandpa’s old Sunday suit or the dress you wore to work last year. Youth are looking for stunning evening wear. They want to feel like a million dollars.
We need items that teenagers would be excited to wear to prom or grad.
Shoes
Shoes that a teenager would love to wear to prom. Women’s flats and heels. Boy’s/men’s dress shoes. All sizes.
We don’t need fancy flip flops or casual shoes.
Accessories
Shawls, shrugs, purses, handbags, jewelry, formal ties and bowties.
New makeup (we do not accept used makeup)
Clothing Racks
We need dress racks for our drop-off locations. The more sturdy the better as they will eventually be loaded with heavy dresses and suits.
Gift Cards
We love gift cards… what do we use them for?
- Door prizes for students who attend the event
- Balloons and decorations
- Coat hangers… we always need coat hangers
- Water for volunteers
- Purchasing items for students who didn’t find something at the event
- Any miscellaneous items that we might need for the event
Types of gift cards: Amazon, Dollar Tree, Dollarama, Party City, Moores, Penningtons, Le Chateau, Tip Top etc.
Cash Donations
Making Prom Happen accepts cash donations – please send e-transfers to info at makingpromhappen dot ca. They will automatically be deposited to our bank account.
Unfortunately we are not yet able to provide tax receipts… but we are working on it.

What do we do with all of the donations?
Your donations will take one of SIX routes, all of which help us Make Prom Happen for youth.
- Items that are appropriate for prom will be available to students at our yearly event.
Items that are not appropriate for prom, or items that do not get chosen by students at our yearly event will be:
- Stored for next year if storage room is available at volunteer’s houses.
- Donated to another free promwear event.
- Placed with a consignment shop to raise funds for next year’s event.
- Sold online to raise funds for next year’s event.
- Donated to a local second-hand store.
